We recently went on a trip to Taipei, Taiwan (again) and it seems to be our secondary go-to place to test phones since we are constantly traveling there. We opted to use the F11 Pro there as it has some interesting features that we think is really useful for tourists and particularly work-oriented trips.
The OPPO F11 Pro was just launched not too long ago, and we have the privilege to get the device earlier than and take it on a trip to test it out. It has a few unique features built into this premium mid-range smartphone and we are going to talk about them here.
Pushing the camera limits
The OPPO F11 Pro comes with dual cameras – quite a norm for smartphone nowadays. It has a 48MP main camera to take all of our pictures. Of course, this is not our first time using a smartphone that has a 48MP camera. Also, hardware is only half the story – and the software is what makes the photos look great.
As the OPPO F11 Pro comes with ColorOS 6, we have a new camera UI. With it comes a brand new camera mode too – and OPPO calls it the “ultra night mode”. Here’s a brief introduction to this technology: it uses uses the 4-in-1 pixel combination technique alongside with a long exposure shot to achieve brilliant night shots.
The results? They’re fantastic. We walked around Ximen area and these are the pictures we got.
Best of all, you can combine portrait mode with the night mode as well. This creates a brilliant portrait mode even in the dim conditions. The background is much more visible with the night mode enabled.
With portrait + mode modes working together, the background also appears brighter, giving context to where the picture is taken. Also, my face is brighter!
Our daily agenda was fairly simple. Get up in the morning and head out at about 8am to do our job for the day and head back to the hotel before heading off for dinner again. The large 4,000mAh battery manages to handle this task like a champ – and there’s no surprise here.
At the evening when we reached back to the hotel, the battery was about around 40%. I popped in a Taiwanese SIM card and use the OPPO F11 Pro as my WiFi hotspot for my other devices as well. For me, I did not want to risk it and just plugged it into the VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 charger when I am at the hotel.
I’m usually only back at the hotel for an hour to get some work done and also to take a shower before heading off again. This VOOC 3.0 charger outputs 5V 4A to the OPPO F11 Pro, and manages to 100% battery charge in 80 minutes. That means 20 minutes faster than its previous generation (the VOOC 2.0)! I’m back out again with a full charge and ready to take beautiful night shots.
That massive, notchless display
The OPPO F11 Pro is a smartphone that does not have any notch. It is actually one of the few mid-range smartphones that come with a rising selfie camera. This allows the OPPO F11 Pro to sport a beautifully massive 6.53-inch display with 90.9% screen-to-body ratio.
With such a massive display, I was able to enjoy movies on my phone without any weird notches on the phone. That is because I even bring a phone holder in my bag just to watch movies in the plane. It can get really bright or really dim, and the colors are looking great as well. The contrast is quite punchy, too.
By the way, it comes with a 3.5mm audio jack too. I plugged in whatever earphone I have and started enjoying my movies and music instantly.
Bonus: Hyper Boost
Each time before a flight, we’re always waiting for boarding and waiting for the plane to take off. Those are the agonizing moments that I have nothing better to do than to just scroll mindlessly on Facebook or play some games.
The OPPO F11 Pro comes with something called Hyper Boost technology which enhances the responsiveness of the phone in day-to-day tasks. OPPO claims that the Hyper Boost technology can launch Facebook 31% faster, up to 27% faster back to home, and up to 19% faster swipe to the next screen.
As for games, it can intelligently learn the behaviors of a game and allocates the optimum amount of system resources for that particular game. This Hyper Boost technology currently is optimized for 11 popular games including PUBG Mobile and AOV.
What’s your favorite?
The OPPO F11 Pro does come with quite a lot of different features that are only found in a handful of premium smartphones. For the price of RM1,299 right now, it is definitely the most affordable premium mid-range smartphone in the market right now.
Also, OPPO sent us this image. This is the new OPPO F11 Pro Marvel’s Avengers Limited Edition. We do not have any availability or price details yet, but we will surely keep you updated on this.
