A press release arrived to our email – and it’s from OPPO. They’re teasing a brand new R-series smartphone that’s arriving this month, and we sort of know what’s the phone anyway – it’s the OPPO R17 or the R17 Pro, depending on which variant that OPPO is bringing in.
Since the OPPO R15 Pro, there was a 6 months hiatus leading up to this point in time. It seems like OPPO is going to have a big return with the new R17, and they’re putting an emphasis on the cameras this time around.
The OPPO R17 has this list of specs:
- 6.4-inch display with 2280×1080 pixels in resolution with a waterdrop notch
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chipset
- 2x Kryo 360 Gold @ 2.0GHz + 6x Kryo 360 Silver @ 1.7GHz
- Adreno 615 graphics
- 700MHz with 192ALUs
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB storage
- Dual rear-facing cameras
- 16MP f/1.9 + 5MP depth sensor
- 25MP f/2.0 selfie camera
- ColorOS 5.2 with Android 8.1 Oreo
- 3,500mAh battery
However, if OPPO Malaysia is bringing in the OPPO R17 Pro, then we’ll be having this list of hardware instead:
- 6.4-inch display with 2340×1080 pixels in resolution with a waterdrop notch
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset
- 2x Kryo 360 Gold @ 2.2GHz + 6x Kryo 360 Silver @ 1.7GHz
- Adreno 616 graphics
- 700MHz with 192ALUs
- 8GB RAM
- 128GB storage
- Triple rear-facing cameras
- 12MP f/2.5-2.4
- 20MP f/2.6
- Time-of-flight (TOF) 3D stereo camera
- 25MP f/2.0 selfie camera
- ColorOS 5.2 with Android 8.1 Oreo
- 3,700mAh battery
With such a big emphasis on the cameras, we’re hoping that OPPO is indeed bringing in the R17 Pro. With the TOF 3D stereo camera, the OPPO R17 Pro can essentially map the 3D objects or space.
