As we all know, MWC2019 is around the corner, and OPPO unveiled their latest technology – a 10x lossless zoom camera lens system that OPPO says is ready for mass production – and meets commercial standards too. This technology will be showcasing at MWC2019 at Barcelona.
The 10x lossless zoom is in other words, optical zoom. However, unlike the telephoto lens that we have now that switches between two fixed field of view angles, OPPO’s 10x lossless zoom camera lens system is continuous – which means you can have it zoom to 1.2x or 5.6x.
OPPO utilizes the periscope camera layout to move lenses back and forth, thus changing the field of view. This is actually not the first time OPPO showed off a periscope-like lens system for smartphones. During MWC2017, OPPO unveiled a 5x optical zoom lens that uses the periscope design too.
However, the all new 10x lossless zoom here is able to take 3 types of different pictures because of its different field of view. Take a look at this graph that was handily prepared by OPPO.
Looking at the graph itself, we actually are able to determine a few things here. Firstly, those 3 different types of photography are listed as telephoto, “Ultra Clear Master” and ultra wide angle. These 3 different names actually corresponds to the functions of why we have more than 1 camera on our smartphones these days.
From here, we can know that OPPO is trying to integrate all 3 cameras into just 1. Perhaps by utilizing only one camera sensor for all these 3 different types of photography, OPPO will pack a beefier sensor – like the 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor that is found in the HONOR View20.
OPPO also introduced a wide zone optical fingerprint recognition. Technically, OPPO just made the under-display fingerprint scanning area even larger than before so you don’t have to press that one single point each time to unlock the phone. Also, OPPO is integrating a multi-fingerprint authentication to boost the security even higher.
We will have to wait until MWC2019 to find out what OPPO has in stores for us and how they are integrating the 10x lossless zoom periscope lens design into a smartphone.
