Qualcomm has updated its entry-level SoC for the budget smartphones through the addition of the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, allowing some of yesteryear’s premium stuff to downstream to the affordable market.
First, we have the “4G only” Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 that aims for more performance in exchange “not doing 5G” through its 8-core CPU with 2.9GHz boost speed. It also has an updated Adreno GPU for a bit more gaming performance, and it now supports FHD+ displays running at up to 120Hz.
On the imaging side, the chip supports cameras up to 108MP and adds improvements around AI-assisted voice features and audio processing, which hints at smoother calls and smarter voice interactions in entry-level phones.
On the other hand, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 cuts the boost clock down to 2.3GHz, running 2P + 6E setup for the CPU. Fabricated with a 4nm process, this chip will aim to bring absolute battery life into the entry-level 5G space, alongside an integrated sub-6GHz 5G modem.
Qualcomm is also pushing imaging upgrades here, with support for up to 108MP sensors and hardware-based multi-frame noise reduction, a feature that used to be reserved for higher-tier chips. Like the 6s 4G Gen 2, it can drive FHD+ displays at up to 120Hz, making smooth scrolling and animations more common even on cheaper phones.
