realme Malaysia just announced the arrival of the realme X50 Pro which has 5G support (obviously) and it is priced at RM2,999. That’s a tough price to swallow even if it has “flagship specs”.
In terms of specs, the realme X50 Pro comes with the expected list of hardware:
- 6.44-inch Super AMOLED screen
- 1080p in resolution
- 90Hz refresh rate
- Pill-shaped cutout at the top left corner
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
- 12GB RAM
- 256GB storage
- Triple rear-facing camera setup
- Main: 64MP f/1.8 with PDAF
- Telephoto: 12MP f/2.5 with 2x optical zoom; PDAF
- Ultra-wide angle: 8MP f/2.3; fixed focus
- Depth sensor
- Dual selfie cameras
- Main: 32MP f/2.5; fixed focus
- Ultra-wide angle: 8MP f/2.2; fixed focus
- 4,200mAh battery
- 65W fast charging
- Android 10 with realme UI 1.0
And that’s all about the realme X50 Pro. There’s nothing particularly special about it and 5G is still unusable in Malaysia – which is why we said we should not buy a smartphone solely based on the availability of 5G for now.
By the time 5G becomes widely available and affordable in Malaysia, there are many more other 5G smartphones in the market.
I am still doubting that the realme X50 Pro can run games in 90Hz. As stated in many other reviews – including our review of both the realme 6 and realme 6 Pro – there is a hard lock to downgrade all games to run at 60Hz max even when the games can go up to 120Hz.
It also happened with the realme X3 Superzoom, which GSM Arena reviewed and stated that:
We tried a bunch of games, and none of them ran above 60Hz in any display mode.
Until now, we are still unsure if this issue has been addressed.

I mean, if you really want a gaming phone – then get the Black Shark 3, the Black Shark 3 Pro, or wait for the upcoming ROG Phone 3 instead. Maybe Poco F2 Pro? Or maybe – get the iPhone SE.
