The Nintendo Switch is a supremely popular console. It’s very versatile – I can play while I’m out and about and instantly play on the big screen via the dock. No rebooting or delays – just plug it in and everything works seamlessly. But the accessories? Not so much – especially the Joy-Cons. That’s why we have the HyperX ChargePlay Quad.
The HyperX ChargePlay Quad is pretty self-explanatory. It’s a charging station for up to 4 Joy-Cons at once. The question is why do we need this? Well, it’s because Nintendo, in their infinite wisdom, can only charge the Joy-Cons via the Switch console itself. And we can only charge a pair of Joy-Cons at once.

More Joy-Cons means that they’ll have to take turns to charge. It’s annoying since Nintendo is especially focused on couch multiplayer games.
But what if you have a Switch Lite? Then you absolutely need an external Joy-Con charger. That’s when we need the HyperX ChargePlay Quad.
Unboxing
It’s a very typical HyperX packaging design, actually. The front of the box shows what this product will do, and that’s all we need to know.
There are some other words descriptions behind the box, but that’s not really important anyway.
Digging out everything, we have a very long micro USB cable, the HyperX ChargePlay Quad itself, and the user manual.
Design
It’s great that HyperX stuck with a dome-like shape with slots for the Joy-Cons to go in. The overall color and texture of the HyperX ChargePlay Quad is very similar to the Nintendo Switch’s dock, and they both blend together nicely.
Looking from the top, there is also a HyperX logo with a ring of LED. It somehow looks like the Xbox 360’s ring, actually.
Setup
It’s very simple. Just take the extreme long, included micro USB cable and connect the HyperX ChargePlay Quad into a smartphone charger – or even your Nintendo Switch dock.
Then, you can slot your Joy-Cons into the HyperX ChargePlay Quad and it’ll start charging. When the Joy-Cons are charging, the ring LED will light up in its respective quadrants, indicating that it is charging.
That’s it!
And that’s pretty much all there is to say about the HyperX ChargePlay Quad. It’s a very simple, straightforward product that I think is essential for many Nintendo Switch owners. And yet the HyperX ChargePlay Quad is not that expensive either. The official price is at RM188, but we can find it at about RM158 to RM199, so make sure you are getting the best price.
The HyperX ChargePlay Quad is easy to use, elegant, and for those who have more than a pair of Joy-Cons, it’s very handy.
