Introducing, the new OPPO Reno 6 Pro. It’s the highest-end smartphone within the Reno 6 series and it is priced at a premium too. However, there are a few things to take note here.

The OPPO Reno 6 Pro that we have comes with Snapdragon 870 chipset. From what we can find out, some other regions are getting the MediaTek version – which also has a different camera setup.

With that said, let’s begin and talk about the OPPO Reno 6 Pro – specifically the Snapdragon 870 version.

We first have to mention the unboxing part of the OPPO Reno 6 Pro. Opening up the box, we don’t have any earphones inside.

I pointed this out because the OPPO Reno 6Z that we reviewed earlier, does come with earphones in the box. There are inconsistencies within the Reno 6 series of phones in itself.

Now for the design, the OPPO Reno 6 Pro is very nice to hold because of its dimensions. It’s nice to touch too because of its matte finish at the back. It’s still using the same Reno Glow finish, and brushing my fingers across it – you can hear the roughness.

But – this design is very reminiscent of one other phone – the Galaxy Note 20. The camera cutout is very similar and the placement of components is also the same.

We also have 4 different cameras on the Reno 6 Pro that’s different from the MediaTek version. So… how’s the camera quality then?

To have a look at all the pictures taken with the OPPO Reno 6 Pro, watch our video at the top of this review. But just to show you how useless that macro camera really is, here’s a comparison.

Seriously those useless depth sensors and 2MP fixed focus macro cameras shouldn’t exist anymore.

For the software side of things – despite the OPPO Reno 6 Pro being a more “premium” phone, OPPO still includes a lot of unwanted apps in the Reno 6 Pro. The App Market is still there, those unwanted Hot Games and Hot Apps are still there. Moreover, we still have many other pre-installed apps that we have to remove on our own.

That side, ColorOS 11 is pretty fine. The menus and overall usability are okay so no complaints other than the bloatware.

Then comes the battery. The OPPO Reno 6 Pro comes with a 4,500mAh battery and it’s a pretty big battery, honestly. It can last for a whole day without any issues at all but if you do need a quick charge, the OPPO Reno 6 Pro comes with the SuperVOOC 2.0 proprietary charger, which maxes out at 65W.

It manages to charge this phone from 15% to 100% battery in about half an hour’s time. That’s because the OPPO Reno 6 Pro is using a dual-cell battery design. Nice.

However, we need to highlight the word “proprietary” once again because this charger doesn’t support USB-PD. Our USB-PD laptop only takes in 3.2W.

As for the performance, the OPPO Reno 6 Pro has a Snapdragon 870 chipset and it performs very well while keeping the heat in check too. I didn’t feel any overheating or excessive heating – and that’s good.

We also have our dedicated gaming test of the OPPO Reno 6 Pro, which you can watch it here.

The OPPO Reno 6 Pro also comes with a curved 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with 2400×1080 pixels in resolution. Pretty standard stuff – and goes up to 90Hz refresh rate too. The screen looks good overall.

It also comes with a pre-installed screen protector, by the way.

And one thing I need to highlight is that OPPO, please don’t put the fingerprint scanner so far down on the phone. It’s very difficult to reach and it doesn’t feel ergonomic or comfortable to use.

Should you buy the OPPO Reno 6 Pro?

Let’s talk about the price. At RM2,999, this is definitely a premium smartphone and for that price – you need to know that this phone does not have HDMI output over Type-C, among some other things. that said, this is still a rather good phone.
