ASUS ExpertBook B9

The realme 9i has been released for quite some time now and today is the day that we finally get to review it. This phone is a rather decent phone – so let’s go through what it has to offer.

Acer Nitro 5

This phone is a rather simple phone, honestly. The realme 9i sits somewhere higher than entry-level smartphones. Let’s go through our usual 6 points of a smartphone – starting with the design.

This phone has a rather interesting look. It has some kind of luggage bag aesthetics?? I’m not sure what this texture is called but I think the word “corrugated” is the appropriate word.

This texture cannot be felt with my fingertips since it’s covered by a flat matte finish. It still catches some fingerprints, but it’s easy to just wipe them off.

That camera bump though, is super shiny and glossy.

So let’s talk about the camera now. I only consider the main camera to be usable. Yes, there’s a 2MP macro camera that can be used to take pictures but come on – the quality is a joke.

If you want to see all the pictures taken with the realme 9i, then watch our video at the top of this review.

As for the screen, the realme 9i comes with a pretty standard 6.6-inch IPS LCD screen 2412×1080 pixels in resolution and 90Hz in refresh rate. The screen looks decent and the colors look good, but it’s a little bit difficult to use during bright daylight.

The realme 9i is also a fantastic one. It comes with a massive 5,000mAh and it can last for about 17.5 hours in our battery life test. I mean, given the low-powered Snapdragon 680 chipset, that’s expected.

As for the charging speed, this phone comes with a 33W proprietary Dart Charge charger and it charges the realme 9i from 15% to 100% in about 80 minutes.

And back to that Snapdragon 680 chipset for a while. That chip is – like what we mentioned earlier – low-powered. Like what we showed in our gaming test of the realme 9i, there are definitely stutters here and there while playing Genshin Impact, but runs other less-intensive games like PUBG New State, COD Mobile, or Mobile Legends just fine.

You can watch our gaming test for the realme 9i right here to find out more.

Lastly, the software. The realme 9i is running on realme UI 2.0 with Android version 11. The overall user experience is very similar to OPPO’s ColorOS – I mean, the reason is obvious, right?

realme 9i

I honestly do not have any major complaints regarding the software. The settings menu is clean, there’s no annoying popups or timers like its prominent competitor, and I have not encountered any bugs too. Granted, there are quite a lot of bloatware apps that we can uninstall on our own.

Should you buy the realme 9i?

All in all, for the price of RM869, I think the realme 9i is a rather decent phone overall. Some might say that it’s a bit more expensive than its competitors but I’d argue that the realme 9i is actually a well-balanced phone in all of the 6 aspects that we’ve talked about in this video. The software experience is important and the realme UI 2.0 is actually decent.
