Alright, so we usually watch the videos by JerryRigEverything for our own educational purposes, but never actually share them here. But today, we want to share with you something that’s impressive – and that’s his iconic torture test on the Samsung Galaxy A80. Spoiler: the Galaxy A80 passed with flying colors, even with that dual-rotational motorized camera design!
You can watch the video here first – and I had a hard time going through the video because I just can’t stand seeing phones going through his torture test. For the sake of education, we still have to watch it.
Going through his video, he grabbed the popup “compartment” and forced it up, down, and to hold it while the camera is retracting, restraining the cameras from doing anything, and even slamming the extended camera on the table. The last one is the one thing that I cringed a lot when I saw it – but the Galaxy A80 survived.
This guy even tried to break the camera compartment by popping out the gears around the sides – but that didn’t budge either. Truly amazing.

Then at the end of the video, comes the durability bend test. We were all worried since the OPPO Find X from last year – which had the same type of mechanism camera mechanism – failed the durability test and snapped in half.
Only the backplate where the camera mechanism retracts is shown to be flexed outward but other than that, the camera remains to be solid as ever.
Having a phone with a partially detached internal is a recipe for disaster when it comes to bend tests. But the Galaxy A80 held up. It withstood all of the tests and the camera still works without any issues. Now that is just impressive!
As stated in our review of the Galaxy A80 here, we did not encounter any issue with the Galaxy A80’s rotating camera, although we did mention that its motor is noisy.
Perhaps this goes to show that great engineering does indeed come with a premium price. The Galaxy A80’s torture test here really shows its engineering marvel.
