One of my favorite devices of last year is the Galaxy Z Fold3. It made foldable devices mainstream and because of its IPX8-rating, I absolutely fell in love with what the device can do. And now, we have the Galaxy Z Fold4. With it comes a lot of upgrades.
If you want to watch instead of reading an article about everything new regarding the Galaxy Z Fold4, good news – we have a video about it too.
And now we’ll start on with some even better news!
The absolute best news
I’m going to start off by sharing a piece of fantastic news with everyone who is interested to get the Galaxy Z Flip4 and the Galaxy Z Fold4. We recently had a roundtable with Samsung Malaysia and we all highlighted one particular issue – the warranty policy. So, when Samsung Malaysia took heed and improved upon it.
For all Galaxy Z Flip4 and the Galaxy Z Fold4 customers, we will all be getting:
- 2 years of warranty in total
- 3x screen protector exchange
The latter is especially crucial for the Galaxy Z Fold series of devices as I saw way more Galaxy Z Fold3 (even in the wild) with the screen protective film bubbled or partially lifted off the screen. I’m sure it’s an annoying distraction but also a dilemma. Should you pull it out and leave the display exposed or leave it on there?
The clear answer now is to get the film replaced. Samsung covers 3x replacements – and that means we have 4 screen protectors to go through. The first one is from the factory, and 3 more from the Samsung service center.
Price
Again, as of the time of this publication – we do not have the local pricing yet. We do know that Samsung will have up to 55% savings when getting either the Galaxy Z Flip4 or the Galaxy Z Fold4 with the trade-up program.
Samsung accepts trade-ins of devices from their own portfolio and also from other brands – including those of older generations. Samsung also accepts up to 5 different devices (smartphones, smartwatches, tablets) to rebate for a single device.
Samsung Malaysia is also looking to introduce an “any condition” trade-in. Even if it’s cracked or unable to turn on, it should still be able to rake in the minimum amount when trading in.
Galaxy Z Fold4
Onward with the Galaxy Z Fold4! It is now powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and it is available in a total of 3 different colors:
- Phantom Black (same as before)
- Grey Green (my new favorite)
- Beige
Since the phone is now available in a total of 3 different colors, the S Pen Fold Edition is also available in matching colors too.
Better yet, Samsung made a drastically improved version of the S Pen case. It is also in matching colors – and it has a snapping mechanism so that we can choose to either have the S Pen holder or the kickstand. We can change between both of them easily – just yank out and snap the other piece in. I’m loving this idea and it’s much better than last year’s flip case.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 will also have a silicone strap case which I think will make the Galaxy Z Fold4 more ergonomic to hold.
There is also a new kickstand case – which I, unfortunately, cannot find any images of.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 also got a size change. In addition to the smaller frame and smaller bezels of the phone, the aspect ratio of the cover display has also changed to 23.1:9.\
While this is a tiny change in terms of the number, it will make a huge difference in terms of app compatibility and how the display works.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 is also lighter, weighing in at only 263 grams now.
As for the unfolded display, it still has the same 7.6-inch measurement. Since the aspect ratio of the cover display changed, the entire dimension of the phone also changed – hence resulting in a change in the unfolded display’s resolution.
One surprising upgrade is that the new Galaxy Z Fold4’s unfolded display has a higher pixel density around the under-display camera area. Our camera also had a difficult time trying to capture it in camera – and also managed to get a glimpse of it.

The battery on the Galaxy Z Fold4 is still identical as before – 4,400mAh and it still supports the same 25W fast charging. Honestly speaking, I really would’ve liked a bigger battery. The 4,400mAh is not really sufficient for unfolded device usage since the display is so large.
Of course, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is still IPX8-rated.
The biggest improvement on the Galaxy Z Fold4 is going to be the new software interface. You see, any apps placed at the bottom bar of the home screen will now “become” the taskbar when any apps are opened. This is a very small change but I think it makes a humongous difference in terms of user experience and how we multitask with the Galaxy Z Fold4.
Also, we have the ability to swipe apps from the top to the side of the display to use side-by-side multitasking – like how iPads work.
The cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold4 are pretty much identical to the previous generation except for the new 50MP main camera sensor.
By the way, the Galaxy Z Fold4 will also be available in a 1TB variant. That means we can literally use the device as a phone, tablet, or even laptop for that matter.
Specs
Most aspects of the Galaxy Z Fold4 are identical to the previous generation, but it does have a few notable highlights – like the new resolution of the unfolded display has also changed.

Wrapping up
I also agree that the Galaxy Z Fold4 seems like an incremental upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold4. However, the new official S Pen case is a huge improvement. The software also got a big boost and I can say that the Galaxy Z Fold4 is going to be one of the best foldable for multitasking. Samsung fixed a lot of our grips about the Galaxy Z Fold3.
