TikTok has been pretty much the new, big social media platform. TikTok is much more powerful than any other video-based social media platform in the world right now – and analyzing what trends are up and coming is difficult. That’s why TikTok Trends is launched.
TikTok Trends is a regional program to enable marketers with deep insights. TikTok has four new initiatives to assist the marketers – TikTok Trends Events, TikTok Trends Newsletter, TikTok Trends Entertainment Marketing White Paper, and TikTok Creator Academy.
These four initiatives are created to provide these insights:
- TikTok Trends Events is a regional event series by TikTok to provide a platform for mobile and digital marketing professionals to connect and share valuable learnings, insights and the latest trends in the short-video space as well as key TikTok product updates.
- TikTok Trends Newsletter is as a monthly source of information for insights around the latest digital marketing trends, pop culture phenomena across Southeast Asia, as well as tips on how markets can make the most out of their next marketing campaign on TikTok, through key learnings, case studies and product updates.
- TikTok Trends Entertainment Marketing White Paper serves as a guidebook for marketers on TikTok. This whitepaper is to provide key learnings to create a successful entertainment marketing across Southeast Asia.
- TikTok Trends Creator Academy is a series of workshops to empower creators to develop and create compelling brand content and stories on TikTok. These academies are made possible together with robust creator network across Southeast Asia.
The reason why TikTok is providing these insight tools is actually pretty simple – there are over 680 million monthly active users worldwide. To manually analyze all of the videos to know what trends are up and coming is pretty much impossible. With these TikTok Trends tools, marketers can target those up and coming trends before they become trends.

With the rise of short-form videos, it is much more easily consumed on smartphones. More and more brands have been joining in the TikTok revolution too, as partnerships with Warner Music Malaysia, Celebrity Fitness Malaysia, and the Penang Global Tourism board launching the #ilovesinging challenge (21.5mil views), a contest to gauge the vocal talent of Malaysians nationwide; #everydayIgetbetter (36.3mil views), a challenge to encourage Malaysians in adopting an active lifestyle, and #experiencepenang (38.7mil views) that highlights the wonderous Penang Island.
I personally use TikTok as a platform for some weird but useful tips and tricks that is actually useful. These videos are short and straight to the point – making it very easy to consume a bunch of videos by just scrolling through the phone for a while.
