The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip was announced alongside the Galaxy S20 series of smartphones. It finally arrived in the Malaysian market recently at the price of RM5,888 and hey – a lot of people bought it. Even the pre-orders were sold out within 24 hours. And remember – this is the company’s second foldable smartphone, but it’s their first clamshell phone with a flexible display and Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG).

Despite the “controversy” surrounding the glass or not – which happened because someone didn’t do his homework – we have a lot of long-term users on Twitter that voiced out about the build quality of the Galaxy Z Flip.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

It started with Quinn Nelson from Snazzy Labs. Despite being an Apple guy himself, he fell in love with the Galaxy Z Flip and had been using since he got it.

Of course, skeptics said that he’s unconsciously treating it more carefully. And Quinn posted this video on Twitter that made me… anxious.

I mean, opening the Galaxy Z Flip with fingernails is already something that I wouldn’t do, but he gotta just brush the screen across a mechanical keyboard – because why not? And then throw it on a carpeted floor because he can.

And surprise – the Z Flip showed no signs of damage!

Someone also asked him to bring it to the beach, assuming that sand might damage the hinge. But Quinn already brought it to the beach and nothing’s wrong with it. This guy is quite a mad lad.

And then Max Weinbach of XDA Developers also joined in the conversation and explicitly mentioned that he opens the Z Flip using his fingernails and fell off his table a few times and fell off a 6-foot shelf for at least 5 minutes.

But it still works.

While I commend the build quality of the Galaxy Z Flip, the amount of abuse that it got through is just something that I cannot bring myself to do to a phone. Any phone for that matter.

I mean, I abused the Galaxy Z Flip by literally pressing it while folded, but that’s nowhere as abusive as these people do.

The most I did was discovering another way to take advantage of that hinge so that I can take beautiful pictures using pro mode. Still, I’d get protection like case.

Mad respect for these people who abuse their expensive foldable smartphone and be proud of it to show it off. Especially since they’re using the Galaxy Z Flip without a case.
