Google caused a lot of commotion these few days with their newly announced Android 4.3, which is however still called Jelly Bean, to the world. Android 4.3 isn’t a lot different from Android 4.2 at all – but it’s all under the hood.
I shall say first though, Android 4.3 isn’t much of a milestone from Android 4.2 even for its features, basically just barely enough end-user improvements to make the decimal place up a notch. Basically, these are the features you have :
- User accounts with restricted profiles – make user profiles with limited privileges, just like your computer
- Dial pad auto-complete – a feature that matches the phone number you’re typing with your contacts
- Ability to pair low-powered Bluetooth devices – if you’re someone who are health-aware and would like to keep everything monitored on your phone, this is a great feature for you
- WiFi always on for location scanning – pretty much just to ensure your location at all times so that your GPS works as quick as possible; can be disabled in Settings
It does feel very disappointing on this, but then again these are only the things highlighted, but Android Police found out that 4K resolution is supported on Android 4.3, which will probably the next Nexus 10 as Google really wants to pump resolution on that baby. Camera got a UI change and Photospheres also had image improvements.
Another thing to note is how the graphics performance will change with OpenGL ES 3.0, as the workload will now be shared between graphics and processor. Enjoy better graphics even with lower-end phones!
Check out the 1-hour long presentation where they talk about Chromecast and all things about the third Jelly Bean too!
To be honest, Android 4.3 is a nice bump to the current version, as they are trying to get the current version better and well-prepared before jumping into another new version of Android, which will leave the bugs there and potentially widen up the fragmentation gap.
