WhatsApp always has the issue of people mindlessly forwarding messages from one chat to another without checking the facts first. To mitigate this, WhatsApp seems to be taking a rather lazy approach.
WhatsApp has announced that message forwarding will be limited to only 1 chat per message, essentially increasing the amount of time needed to spread news or information.
The company also works with organizations such as fact-checkers and hubs to officialize information on the respective websites to increase the credibility and reliability. So head over there to get updated instead of trusting some random videos on Facebook.
Could this move came from the recent 5G towers getting burned over hoax regarding COVID-19 is spreadable through EM waves? It might be. And if this would help to stop more towers getting destroyed, I would gladly slow down sending meme packages to the squad.
Let’s not forget that WhatsApp is not the only platform for fake news. We have Twitter for that as well.
