Surprise! Here’s the new Xiaomi 17T series of smartphones! Yes, Xiaomi released this series of devices way ahead of schedule this generation – and we got to test it out early as well. So, without further ado, here is everything that we found out about the new Xiaomi 17T Pro.
Performance
Let’s start off with the performance since this is the main highlight of the Xiaomi 17T Pro. Now, since the 17T series is launched early this generation, the 17T Pro is using the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset. Usually, the T Pro will be using the Plus variant – but not this time. Not sure if there’s even going to be a Dimensity 9500+, but that’s besides the point.

Back to the Xiaomi 17T Pro – it does come with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, because RAM speed matters, and 12GB is plentiful already. The Xiaomi 17T Pro also lets the Dimensity 9500 flex its muscle, thanks to the Xiaomi 3D IceLoop System.

Specs and claims aside, how does it actually perform in games? We tested a list of games with the max settings – and starting with Genshin Impact, it can sustain more than 50fps with whatever we threw at it, and it consumes only around 5W. Even while fighting this boss which I have no idea what its gimmicks are, the Xiaomi 17T Pro runs super smoothly and in this case, consumes less than 5W too.
In Zenless Zone Zero, it’s a much more demanding game – and surprisingly, it’s actually one of the smoothest experience I have while fighting the flower boss fight. It’s near 60fps all the time, and I just had a really good time here.
Moving on to Wuthering Waves – the most demanding game of all because of its lack of optimization, can actually still sustain around 30-ish FPS at the most intensive nest fight. I did notice that the chipset was kinda power-limited during this part of the test. I think that if the chipset is allowed to take in even more wattage, it’ll definitely have higher frame rates – but it will take a hit in its efficiency.
We also tested Arknights Endfield that worls really well because it’s not using Unreal Engine, and War Thunder Mobile can surprisingly lock in at triple-digit FPS all the time with ray-tracing turned on as well. Great stuff.
If you want to see all the games we’ve tested alongside the render resolution, FPS graph, the frame time, the power consumption, the temperature – all of that stuff, then watch our full gaming test video here.
Battery life
The battery life – it’s great to see that the battery capacity of the Xiaomi 17T Pro has been bumped up to a massive 7,000mAh – no idea what’s the Wh value as that information is not published anywhere else, can actually last around 21 hours and 37 minutes in our standardized battery life test.

In terms of efficiency, it’s actually doing really good and it can last for a long time with zero worries – even while gaming.
Charging speed
Okay, the charging speed. We’re testing it with the Anker 100W 3-port charger with Smart Display that supports Xiaomi’s proprietary charging standard of up to 90W. With this, we can get started with our charging test.

With the default settings, it can charge the phone from 15% to completion in around 65 minutes – and the temperature is pretty well-controlled overall, hovering at around 40°C at most.

Then, we can head into the settings menu and bump it up to the highest charging speed possible. This will make the phone charge much faster, taking less than 40 minutes to complete the charging cycle, but the temperature is going to be near 42.5°C throughout the entire charging cycle. It’s still safe, as the battery can go up to around 50°C before it gets damaged.

Then, switching over to our USB-PD PPS charger, I’m actually impressed. The Xiaomi 17T Pro can take in around 77W at most, just like the other charger that we tried – but it’s not going to be taking in 77W for long. When the battery reached 80% charge, it’ll slow down the charging speed drastically and the last 20% will require around 25 minutes to complete – but the temperature is also much lower.
It is actually in contrast with the other charger that we had, which aggressively pushed the wattage for the entire charging cycle and caused the battery temperature to be quite high.
Screen
Now, the screen. It’s using a 6.83-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2772×1280 pixels and it can go up to 144Hz refresh rate too. Xiaomi does claim a lot of stuff on the specs sheet, but I’ll skip all of that and let you know that Xiaomi claims this screen can go up to 3500 nits Peak Brightness. From our test that lights up the entire display in high brightness mode, this screen can go up to around 1100 nits at most, and exactly 1 nit at the minimum brightness. That’s actually a very decent range.

As for the color gamut coverage, we have two different color profiles. Let’s start with the default Original Color PRO first. It can cover around 99.17% of sRGB and around 73.84% of DCI-P3 color gamuts with a very low ΔE number. That’s actually a really good color profile.

Then, we turned it up to the vivid color profile, and it can increase to cover nearly 100% of sRGB and nearly 85% off DCI-P3 color gamuts with a very low ΔE number. It’s a fantastically color-accurate display despite not being the most vivid one out there.

Software
In terms of the software, the Xiaomi 17T Pro is equipped with HyperOS 3.0.302.0 on top of Android 16, and it is actually quite okay here. There is surprisingly no bloatware or ads that annoy me, and it also has updates here and there.

First, the weather widget has been updated with a really nice 1×2 grid size, and the weather app still looks as beautiful as ever, especially while it’s raining.

Then, the animations have been updated too. Now, in certain system menus, it we can see the new stretch and pull animation that looks… kinda like a rubberhose animation.
Other than that, it’s the same HyperOS that we’ve come to expect. Xiaomi has also stated that the Xiaomi 17T Pro will get 5 generations of Android OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches. Pretty good, and that Dimensity 9500 can definitely last throughout all those years of updates.

Camera
With all of that done, let’s also talk about the cameras. Instead of the typical 3x optical zoom, we have the a 5x periscope lens – just like its predecessor.

Design
Everything that we talked about in this video is encased within this design of a phone. It is actually basically the same shape and size of the Xiaomi 15T Pro. I think it’s a design that works with a well-rounded corner for comfort, but it’s a bit thick this generation because of the much bigger battery.

I have to say, this Navy Blue color is just so nice to look and touch. Even the camera bump is covered in the same color as well, making the whole phone look homogeneous as everything gels together, making it look rather understated.
A few more things to mention
And we do have a few more things to go through here. The Xiaomi 17T Pro comes with a USB 2.0 port at the bottom – yes, I checked. It also doesn’t have display output capability too.

It will also have dual SIM card slots, and also has eSIM support too – which is a great feature to have.

Then, at the back of the phone, we have the IR blaster so we can use the phone as a remote control.

Should you buy the Xiaomi 17T Pro?

I mean, starting at only RM2,899, there’s no other smartphone out there in the market right now that is basically covering all aspects in a well-balanced manner, and still equipped with the latest flagship chipset. The Xiaomi 17T Pro doesn’t hold back the Dimensity 9500’s performance, and we can literally play games for hours and hours on end.
