Coming in at a surrisingly low price, the Redmi 7 that was launched just yesterday is now here in Malaysia already. This is an interesting smartphone as it is priced even lower than before. This is made possible by its clever choice of hardware.

  • 6.26-inch IPS LCD display with waterdrop notch
    • 1520×720 pixels in resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 632
  • Up to 4GB RAM
  • Up to 64GB internal storage; expandable with microSD
  • Dual rear-facing cameras
    • Main camera: 12MP f/2.2
    • Depth sensor: 2MP
  • 8MP selfie camera
  • 4,000mAh battery
  • Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 9.0

Looking at the specs alone, the Redmi 7 is surprisingly similar to the ASUS ZenFone Max (M2) that we reviewed here. That particular phone actually a good-enough smartphone for really basic day-to-day use like WhatsApp, some Facebook and Messenger alongside with Telegram chats. The Snapdragon 632 chipset is absolutely incapable of running games like PUBG Mobile, even at its lowest graphical settings possible. This is only at 720p resolution, by the way.

With that said, with such a low price tag, I can’t complain much. The Redmi 7 is definitely going to give the ASUS ZenFone Max (M2) a run for its money. Yet the Redmi 7 feels very comfortable in the hand.

Here comes the big boy – the highly anticipated mid-range smartphone from Xiaomi themselves. We Malaysians are getting the higher variant that has the 48MP cameras. Surprisingly, according to the specs, this sensor is a 0.5-inch Samsung GM1 sensor. It has the ISOCELL Plus technology with 4-in-1 Super Pixel technology, which takes stunning low-light photography.

Here are the specs for the Redmi Note 7:

  • 6.3-inch IPS LCD display with waterdrop notch
    • 2340×1080 pixels in resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE
  • Up to 4GB RAM
  • Up to 128GB internal storage; expandable with microSD card

For a mid-range smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is one of the first mid-range smartphone to support QuickCharge 4.0. With the price of the Redmi Note 7, it only comes with a 5V 2A charger – which is understandable as it still needs to keep the price down low.
