It’s ridiculous, really. The Huawei Nova 2 Plus came out about a month ago, and they’re now announcing the Huawei Nova 2i – a smartphone with a total of 4 cameras. Not too sure what Huawei is thinking, but there you have it.
The brand new Huawei Nova 2i is focused on being a camera-centric smartphone – specifically made for selfies. I mean, isn’t that the current trend for smartphones in 2017? We’ve seen ASUS jumping on to this trend with their ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro and Nokia 8 offers a unique feature called Bothie, it’s no surprise that Huawei wants a piece of this cake too.
The Huawei Nova 2i sports a total of 4 cameras – two at the front and another two at the back. It couples a 16MP + 2MP for the rear-cameras and a 13MP + 2MP selfie camera combo. By the looks of it, the Huawei Nova 2i uses a hybrid dual-camera system – where two cameras have two different lenses and do not work hand-in-hand.
On another bandwagon, the Huawei Nova 2i has also hopped onto the “high screen-to-body” ratio trend with its 5.9-inch IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio at 1080p. Seriously just call it 2:1 instead.
Powered by Huawei’s very own Kirin 659 chipset, the Huawei Nova 2i is also coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Of course, there’s a microSD card slot too.
The entire Huawei Nova 2i is juiced up by a 3,340mAh battery but surprisingly, just like what ASUS has done, opted for microUSB instead of using USB-C. No idea why they did that.
As for the price, the Huawei Nova 2i is tagged at RM1,299 – which is a price segment that doesn’t have many competitors these days. It’s smart of Huawei to lower their prices to just complete around this price point.
So is the 4-camera gimmick going to make an impact in the market? Probably, as many more smartphones are having dual-camera selfie or dual-camera on the rear, it’s no surprise that people will be enticed with a smartphone that has a total of 4 cameras for the price of RM1,299.
It’s available in both black and gold colors, by the way.
[UPDATE]: Huawei just slashed the price of the Huawei Nova 2i to RM1,099 permanently!
Yes – you read that right. The Huawei Nova 2i will now cost only RM1,099. This is not a promotion. It’s permanently down by RM200 so that it’s more pocket-friendly!

[UPDATE 2]: Screw that, the Huawei Nova 2i is now only RM999!
The Nova 2i is getting another price slash – this time cutting it down to RM999. This is the second time Huawei is making an official announcement for the price cut of the Nova 2i. Their reason for this price cut is wholesome enough too:
To be celebrated on 13 May this year, Mother’s Day has always been one of the important revels in Malaysia to honor the mother of every family. In recognizing their contribution for the family with sweat and tears, Huawei has decided to lower the price of Huawei nova 2i to RM999, making it more accessible for everyone who is looking out for a meaningful present this Mother’s Day.
