I’m sure many of you might already know that the ZenFone Max Pro (M1) is coming soon – how soon? We don’t know. However, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen was at India launching the brand new ZenFone Max Pro (M1). ASUS Malaysia teased us with quite a lot of information – and we’re going to dissect and read between the lines here.
Let’s go through the list of specs on the ZenFone Max Pro (M1) first. It has a 6-inch screen with 18:9 aspect ratio. Notchless. Powered by Snapdragon 636 chipset with 8x Kryo processors and Adreno 509 graphics. Fabricated with 14nm process technology, the Snapdragon 636 promises great performance. Of course, since it’s a ZenFone Max smartphone, it packs a humongous battery too – 5,000mAh to be exact.
As for the variants available, ASUS Malaysia did not make it clear on what configuration will be available in the Malaysian market. However, ASUS Malaysia did state one thing that caught our eyes.
The ZenFone Max Pro (M1) will be available “up to 6GB RAM and 64GB storage”. That in itself is pretty wow – 6GB RAM on a smartphone with 5,000mAh battery! Larger batteries are always better – and I’m glad to see that ASUS knows this and they’re not giving up on this idea.
Other than that, ASUS Malaysia shared a few teaser images. Notable highlights here are the vertically-stacked bokeh camera at the back, pure Android One experience, and also triple card slots – 2 dedicated nano SIM card slots alongside with another dedicated microSD card slot.
However, after highlighting all the great features that the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M1) has, I can’t help but to notice that this smartphone is oddly familiar. Too familiar, actually. Remember the Redmi Note 5 that just launched very recently? Specs are the same. The form factor is very similar as well. Even the design is pretty much identical with the 6-inch notchless display. Even the vertically stacked cameras at the back is the oddly similar.
However, the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro (M1) comes with 2x nano SIM and microSD card slots. Also, the Max Pro (M1) doesn’t have IR blaster like the Redmi Note 5 either.
We’ll have to wait until ASUS Malaysia launches the phone in the market. According to them, it’s coming mid-May. Stay tuned for more information.
