If you’re shopping for a sub-RM1,000 smartphone today, then there’s a brand new smartphone that just arrived in town – and that’s the Honor 8X. This brand new smartphone from Honor boasts a mid-range price tag but offers more features and performance.
The brand new Honor 8X comes with the all-new Kirin 710 chipset that is made specifically for the mid-range market but offers immense efficiency yet adequate amount of performance to experience smooth gaming at a rather high graphical setting. Equipped with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, the Honor 8X can run games for many hours continuously.
Featuring the new 6.5-inch 1080p display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, the Honor 8X achieves a maxxisve 91% screen-to-body ratio with its new COF technology. The COF here stands for “chip on film” technology, where the display driver chip is folded underneath the display – hence the bezels around the screen can be minimized even further.
The Honor 8X is also the first smartphone that is certified with TÜV Rheinland, and the blue light is reduced significantly when low blue light mode is turned on.
Of course, there’s still a notch since the Honor 8X still needs a place to put all the sensors and the selfie camera.
Speaking of the camera, the Honor 8X comes with a 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera and a dual-camera configuration at the back. With a 20MP f/1.8 main camera + 2MP depth sensor at the back, the images produced are actually rather good. To capture better pictures with just a press of the button, the Honor 8X’s AI camera will assist you in doing just that.
At the back of the phone, we can see that the phone has a little strip at the side. According to George Zhou, the head of Honor Malaysia – the strip is inspired by the retro camera designs where a majority of the camera’s body is in one color but the viewfinder area has another color.
If you’re getting the blue version of the phone, then you’ll see that the back has reflections that are similar to the Honor 8 that was reviewed about two years ago.
The Honor 8X is powered by a 3,750mAh battery, and from our review – the Honor 8X can last for a long time thanks to the efficiency of the Kirin 710 chipset. It is also available in both black and blue colors.
The Honor 8X is priced at only RM949 – and you can get a better deal if you order it online or buy it during the roadshow.
