With foldable devices entering its second year since its inception, Huawei just announced the brand new Mate Xs. It’s technically the same as last year’s Mate X, just with a new hinge.
Dubbed the “Falcon Wing hinge” technology, it is constructed out of “zirconium-based liquid metal” which claimed to provide better strength and better flexibility.
As for the size of the device, it is said to be identical to previous generation’s Mate X, as it still has a 6-inch display when folded and an 8-inch display when unfolded. The resolution of the Mate Xs is also unchanged, remaining at 2200×2480 pixels.
It is now equipped with the new Kirin 990 chipset which supports 5G, comes with 55W charging, and also a “flying fish-inspired cooling technology”. Seriously, flying fish?
As for the cameras, it is the same as last generation’s Huawei Mate X. The new Huawei Mate Xs, it has:
- Main: 40MP f/1.8
- Ultra-wide: 16MP f/2.2
- Telephoto: 8MP f/2.4
The Huawei Mate Xs now comes updated with the latest specs and equipped with 5G SA and NSA networks and has support for dual-SIM as well.
Other than that, there’s nothing really much to say about the new Huawei Mate Xs. It’s generally the same as last year’s Mate X but with updated specs and new hinge design. There’s really nothing else to shout about. Even the camera is pretty much identical to the last generation Mate X in terms of specs.
Also, the Huawei Mate Xs will not come with Google apps and services, as the ban is still in effect. Huawei’s own mobile service is growing indeed, but many developers are still holding back as the Google Play Store has a much broader audience.
Then comes the price of the Huawei Mate Xs.
UPDATE: Malaysian price is out!
The Huawei Mate Xs is priced at RM11,111. That’s an insanely steep price for a piece of device that will be out of date in a year’s time. Also, remember that the Huawei Mate X cannot use Google apps.
