Nokia had quite a huge announcement back at MWC2018. They announced a total of 5 new phones – including the iconic banana phone that’s making a return. Today in Malaysia, Nokia just announced that they’re bringing in two out of 5 phones – the Nokia 1, and also the Nokia 7 Plus.
It’s an entry-level smartphone. No doubt about it. It’s aimed towards first time smartphone adopters or for those who want a basic smartphone. It has a durable polycarbonate body with multiple colors and design. Nokia is bringing back the Xpress-on covers too. These covers can be swapped easily by popping them on and off, and refreshing your phone’s look instantly.
The Nokia 1 comes with a 4.5-inch 854×480 IPS display, powered by a MediaTek MT6737M chipset with a quad-core processor running at 1.1GHz each, 1GB LPDDR3 RAM, 8GB storage, and a 2,150mAh battery. The battery is removable too.
As for the cameras, the Nokia 1 comes with a 5MP fixed focus camera at the back, and another 2MP fixed focus camera at the front. Technically, it’s definitely not going to take any pretty shots – they’re just functionally there.
By the way, the Nokia 1 is using Android Oreo Go firmware.
The Nokia 1 is priced at RM339 only, and it’s available in both Warm Red and Dark Blue starting from 13th April 2018. During this introductory offer and while stocks last, an additional Xpress-on cover will be included as well.
For those who want to buy another Xpress-on cover, they’re on sale for RM39.90 for a set of 2. Color choices are Azure, Grey, Yellow, and Pink.
Nokia 7 Plus
Updated with the latest specs, the brand new Nokia 7 Plus is made with even more premium materials and has better hardware. The antenna lines are now hidden under their 6-layer ceramic paint coating.
It’s still milled out of a single block of aluminium, this giving you the best feel when held on your hands. These blocks are gorgeous, by the way. Here’s a sneak peek of the manufacturing process, courtesy of Nokia.
The Nokia 7 Plus now comes with a 6-inch FullView 1080p IPS display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, 4GB LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB of storage, and a non-removable 3,800mAh battery. Honestly speaking, that larger-than-usual battery is definitely going to help the Nokia 7 Plus to survive in everyday usages. Since the Nokia 7 Plus uses the pure Android One experience, don’t expect unnecessary apps in the phone.
As for the cameras, the Nokia 7 Plus now comes with two cameras at the back. The primary camera is 12MP with 1.4um pixel size and an aperture of f/1.75 and ZEISS optics. The second rear-facing camera has a 13MP sensor with 1.0um pixe size, f/2.6 aperture and also comes with ZEISS optics. The selfie camera has a 16MP sensor.
As for price and availability, the Nokia 7 Plus will be sold for RM1,699 starting 20th April. It’ll be available in both black/copper and white/copper colors. A gift box worth RM300 is also available while stocks last.
I have to say, the Nokia 7 Plus has an interesting offer. Let’s not forget that with Nokia’s commitment to the Android One experience, Nokia is able to provide timely updates for their phone. These smartphones can be kept secure and running on the latest firmware to ensure stability and a proper Android experience.
