Nokia has been pretty silent in the smartphone world for a while – other than the leaks to the imminent release of the Nokia 9 PureView, of course. Then we have HMD Global announcing the Nokia 8.1 here in Malaysia – a higher-end mid-range smartphone that sports a fantastic specs list with a capable camera with a very low price.
Let’s get the specs list out of the way first. Looking at the Nokia 8.1, it is indeed a mid-range smartphone but is actually one smartphone that is right against the OPPO R17 Pro. Here are the specs for the Nokia 8.1:
- 6.18-inch IPS LCD notched display with 2280×1080 pixels in resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset
- 4GB LPDDR4X RAM
- 64GB of internal memory (expandable with microSD)
- Dual rear-facing cameras
- 12MP f/1.8 with OIS, EIS, ZEISS optics
- 13MP depth sensor
- 20MP f/2.0 fixed-focus selfie camera
- 3,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging
- Android 9.0 Pie with Android One
From the looks of it, the Nokia 8.1 is indeed looking to be a great phone for the price – especially with that Snapdragon 710. We already have reviewed a Snapdragon 710 smartphone – and we have to say that the performance is indeed fantastic.
Furthermore, Nokia 8.1 offers the latest and greatest Android updates as fast as possible. That means your Nokia 8.1 will be secured by Google’s latest security patches.
Let’s not forget about the cameras here. The 12MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS, EIS, and also ZEISS optics really speaks volume by itself in terms of specs. We have high expectations of this camera, but we will really have to test it for ourselves to know how the camera performs.
Best news of all, the Nokia 8.1 is priced at only RM1,699. It is available in blue/silver color, and will be for sale starting 18th January 2019.
I mean, for the price, you get the iconic Nokia build quality, ZEISS optics camera, and the powerful Snapdragon 710 chipset.
