It’s a big event that Samsung hosted here at Malaysia! It’s the first time that Samsung is having a global event right here in Malaysia, and there are over 1,000 people in the event hall itself. This is where Samsung unveils the brand new Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) and also the Galaxy A9 (2018).

Galaxy A7 (2018)

This smartphone was actually announced a few weeks ago. If you’re curious about the specs – let’s take a look at it once more:

  • 6-inch Super AMOLED display with 2220×1080 resolution
  • 8x 2.2GHz octa-core processor
  • Rear-facing cameras
    • 24MP f/1.7 main camera
    • 5MP f/2.2 depth sensor
    • 8MP f/2.4 ultra-wide camera with 120º
  • 4GB RAM
  • 128GB internal storage
  • 3,300mAh battery

This time around, the main highlight of the Galaxy A7 (2018) is the triple rear-facing cameras – one main camera, one depth sensor, and another ultra-wide 8MP camera. This ultra-wide camera is obviously used to take wide-angle shots. It’s not the first time we’ve seen such a camera setup but Samsung’s implementation on the software side is brilliant.

By having buttons on screen, you can swap between the main and ultrawide camera with a single tap. Speaking of buttons, the power button on the right side of the phone also doubles as the fingerprint sensor.

Samsung Galaxy A9 2018
Hello!

The world’s first quad rear-facing camera setup combines a total of 3 different types of photography into one phone. The Galaxy A9 (2018) can do Live Focus (also known as bokeh or “portrait mode”) with the help of the depth sensor, take close-in shots with the 2x optical zoom camera, and also ultrawide shots by changing to the 8MP camera.

Samsung Galaxy A9 2018

Throughout my quick hands-on with the Galaxy A9 (2018), I realized that Samsung’s implementation in terms of software is a very good one. Instead of having just two buttons like on the Galaxy A7 (2018), the Galaxy A9 (2018) has a total of 3 buttons where you can toggle between the the ultra-wide camera, the telephoto camera, and also the main camera. Very neat.

As for the depth sensor camera, it’s to help with collecting depth data (hence the name) and to create the background blurring effect that many people likes.

There are a total of 4 beautiful colors of the Galaxy A9 (2018) – Lemonade Blue, Cavier Black, and Bubblegum Pink. All of the colors – except for Cavier Black – has a gradient which changes its saturation from pale at the top to saturated at the bottom.
