Another day, another smartphone! Perhaps this is the first smartphone brand that launched their top-notch (pun intended) smartphone in the Malaysian market at such scale. Introducing, the all new Vivo V9 – featuring the familiar-looking top-notch design.
Let’s first talk about the specs. The Vivo V9 is a mid-ranger phone that packs quite a punch.

Seeing the list of specs above, we can tell what kind of smartphone the Vivo V9 is. It’s a selfie phone – that’s a given. The rear-facing camera has a resemblance of stereoscopic dual-camera systems. The 16MP camera is used to capture the image itself, whereas the 5MP camera is used to gather depth data. Learn more about dual-camera systems here.
Since the Vivo V9 comes with the Snapdragon 626 chipset, it is expected to be more power efficient and more powerful than any of the smartphones using Snapdragon 625 chipset. Personally speaking, the Snapdragon 625 is one of my favourite chipset for its power efficiency, and I’m looking forward for the Vivo V9 for its power efficiency.
Other than just specs, the Vivo V9 also comes with FunTouch OS 4.0. Everything is gesture-based since it has such a large display. Also, it now comes with AI capabilities too. Vivo claims that with AI, it the V9 can identify your age, gender, skin tone, and its texture by using the front-facing camera.
Let’s also address the obvious here – the looks. The Vivo V9 obviously looks familiar with the top-notch design, and even the dual-cameras behind are stacked vertically like the iPhone X. Vivo is not the only one using this design, as there will be many more smartphones in the market that are using this design. The ASUS ZenFone 5 and Huawei P20 are on the bandwagon too.
As for the price, the Vivo V9 is priced at RM1,399. Very good price for what it has to offer.
