I think most of the avid smartphone news followers have already seen and heard what the Xiaomi Pocophone is. It’s Xiaomi’s latest venture into the gaming smartphone under the brand Pocophone, releasing its first smartphone called the F1. Very suitable name for the phone as well – since it is the first ever smartphone with crazy cheap price and crazy speed.

Xiaomi Pocophone F1 launch

Let’s first go through the list of specs for the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. It has:

  • 6.18-inch IPS LCD display with 2246×1080 resolution
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset
    • Octa-core processor with 4×2.8GHz Kryo 385 Gold + 4×1.8GHz Kryo 385 Silver
    • Adreno 630 GPU
  • 8GB RAM or 6GB RAM
  • 256GB or 64GB/128GB internal storage
  • 12MP + 5MP dual rear-facing cameras
  • 20MP selfie camera
  • 4,000mAh battery
  • Android 8.1 Oreo

I’ve been seeing another smartphone in the market that markets itself as “crazy fast” and “crazy smart” – and that’s the Honor Play that we reviewed here. Comparing the pure performance, I can vouch that the Snapdragon 845 is supremely more powerful than the Kirin 970 that is used in the Honor Play. Let’s not forget that the Honor Play actually overheats – and that’s not a good thing if you are to game for long hours.

My speculation is that the Pocophone F1 will also use back the technologies behind the Xiaomi Mi A2’s camera, hence having way better picture quality than the Honor Play as well.

Then we have the price. The Pocophone F1 is launched in India with a few different variations:

  • 6GB RAM + 128GB storage @ 23,999 rupees (RM1,405.60)
  • 8GB RAM + 256GB storage @ 28,999 rupees (RM1,698.44)
  • Armored Edition with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage @ 29,999 rupees (RM1,757.01)

With a price this low and specs this fantastic, the Pocophone shows rivaling companies high-end specs can be slotted into a smartphone and price it at such a low price. We’re talking about the Snapdragon 845 here – Qualcomm’s most powerful chip.

My jaw dropped when I looked at the price for the ASUS ZenFone 5z that we reviewed here – and now with the Pocophone F1 at such a low price, I’m awaiting for its arrival to Malaysia with open arms.

By the way, review coming soon! We already have the new Pocophone F1 in our hands!
