MWC2019 is here and we are expected to see a slew of new devices launching from different manufacturers over the course of this week. First off, we start with HMD Global, the home of Nokia smartphones. The highly anticipated Nokia 9 PureView was just launched alongside with other devices as well – the Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2, Nokia 1 Plus, and also the entry-level Nokia 210.
Nokia is really starting off with a bang this year around.
Nokia 9 PureView
This smartphone was already rumored and predicted and had multiple leaks since late last year. Now, the Nokia 9 PureView has officially been launched and we finally know all the details. First, let’s see the specs:
- 5.99-inch pOLED Nokia PureDisplay with 2880×1440 pixels in resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset
- 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM
- 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage
- Quintuple rear-facing cameras:
- 2x 12MP f/1.8 RGB cameras with autofocus and ZEISS optics
- 3x 12MP f/1.8 monochromatic cameras with autofocus and ZEISS optics
- 20MP selfie camera
- 3,320mAh battery
- Android 9.0 Pie
Other key features of the Nokia 9 PureView are the under display fingerprint scanner and of course, the capabilities of the quintuple rear-facing cameras. Nokia says that it can fuse all the 5 cameras together into a single 12MP photo with impressive dynamic range and unparalleled depth of field.
Funny enough, the Nokia 9 PureView does not come with a 3.5mm audio jack but Nokia included a USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack in the box. Also, the 3,320mAh is questionably small as other smartphones with Snapdragon 845 chipset is in quite a danger zone in day-to-day usage.
The Nokia 9 PureView is already shipping and will be available for USD $699 (~RM2,852.64)
Nokia 4.2
This brand new entry- to mid-range smartphone is made to capture the hearts of emerging markets – like India. The specs are looking to be pretty good, too.
- 5.71-inch 1520×720 pixels in resolution with waterdrop notch
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset
- 2GB or 3GB DDR3 RAM
- 16GB or 32GB eMMC storage (expandable with microSD card)
- Dual rear-facing cameras
- 13MP f/2.2
- 2MP depth sensor
- 8MP selfie camera
- 3,000mAh battery
- Android 9.0 Pie
Looking at the specs, the Nokia 4.2 is a pretty compelling smartphone for that price range as well – especially with Google’s software support.
The Nokia 4.2 will be available starting in April at USD $169 (~RM688.71) for the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage version and USD $199 (~RM810.96) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version.
Nokia 3.2
Nokia’s other smartphone with another sleek design and meant for the entry-level market is the Nokia 3.2. This smartphone packs specs that are similar to the Nokia 4.2 and with some minor changes:
- 6.26-inch display with 1520×720 pixels in resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 429 chipset
- 2GB or 3GB of DDR3 RAM
- 16GB or 32GB of eMMC storage (expandable with microSD card)
- 13MP rear-facing camera
- 5MP selfie camera
- 4,000mAh battery
- Android 9.0 Pie
Once again, aiming at around the same target audience of the Nokia 4.2, but with some interesting twist – slightly lower specs and reduction in camera count, but has a massive increase in battery size.
The Nokia 3.2 will be starting may with the price of USD $139 (~RM566.45) for the 2GB RAM + 16GB RAM variant and USD $169 (~RM688.71) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant.
Nokia 1 Plus
Nokia’s brand new entry-level smartphone is the continuation of the Nokia 1 that was launched last year. This new Nokia 1 Plus has all of the good bits with upgraded specs.
- 5.45-inch IPS display with 960×480 pixels in resolution
- Mediatek MT6739WW chipset (4x 1.5GHz)
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB storage
- 8MP rear-facing camera
- 5MP selfie camera
- 3,500mAh battery
- Android 9.0 Pie – Go Edition
Since the Nokia 1 Plus does come with the Android 9.0 Pie – Go Edition, it comes with all the Go variant of Google apps as well, making it optimized to perform the essential tasks of a smartphone but with much lower performance tax.
The Nokia 1 Plus will be available in mid-March with the price of USD $139 (~RM403.44)
Nokia 210
Nokia’s brand new feature phone with the basics of everyday usage. It comes with a 2.4-inch display with 16MB of storage and 4MB of RAM (didn’t see this number in more than a decade). You can still browse the internet and upload pictures on Facebook on this phone too. It does have a camera, you know.
The Nokia 210 will be available from March at the price of USD $35 (~RM142.63)
